PRASHANSA & DANIEL : PUNE CHRISTIAN WEDDING

It is on few moments that you get to notice, simplicity, genuinity and grace all at the same time. This Christian ceremony in Pune at Oxford Golf Club was an endearing ceremony to witness. Prashansa and Danny were surrounded by all close family and friends and I felt all emotional about this.

I am happy at such occasions. True to the spirit occasions ! Here are a few pictures I took that day and I hope you are able to feel what I felt !

SNEHA NISHANT : COUPLE PORTRAITS IN MUMBAI

Sneha and Nishant wanted early morning portraits around Mumbai. These two have been together for almost a decade and it is beautiful to witness stories like these.

I also took pictures for them at their wedding and I should be able to put them up soon.

I know this space has been dull for some time now but I think I can take liberty to say that some good work was keeping me away and I promise to put it up as soon as possible.

SALILA & RAHUL : COUPLE PORTRAITS IN MUMBAI

It is just a few days that these two will tie the knot. Here are a few portraits from their couple portrait session. Hope you guys like it.

I wish them both lots of happiness & togetherness !

INNISFREE : KOREAN BRAND BEAUTY HAUL

It is exactly a day like today where I like to pamper myself a little. Make some nice cup of ginger tea or jasmine tea and put a mud mask or the new sheet masks.

I am a big fan of East asian sense of clean aesthetics and minimalism. And once I was quite excited to see South Korean beauty brand Innisfree coming to Mumbai !

Innisfree is a natural brand that shares the benefits of nature from the pristine island of Jeju allowing for vibrant beauty and pursues an eco-friendly green life to preserve the balance of nature.

Indulge Innisfree Anushree Gavas

Innisfree, the first naturalism oriented cosmetic brand form Korea, is dediated to sharing the clean and pure energy of nature for healthy beauty.

The brand name originated from W.B. Yeats' poem, "The Lake Isle of Innisfree". Innisfree is a small island in a lake called Lough Gill, in Sligo County, Ireland. Yeats grew up visiting Sligo every year and taking small trips to Lough Gill.

THE ART OF PONDI

I got an opportunity to visit Chennai recently for a gorgeous intimate engagement. The weather was absolutely horrible and that is all I can recollect of the trip as there no ounce of the monsoon we experience in Mumbai but all humidity. I like Chennai as a city but not so much for the weather. The thing that i am most excited about my trips to Chennai is the saree shopping. I WILL NOT miss going to Chinnaswamy Chetty Silk Saree shop.  And I did not this time also and ended up buying sarees, you just can’t help, can you?!

Anyway, so, after the engagement we made a quick trip to Pondicherry for a few hours for the couple portraits. Pondicherry is beautiful and I would have liked more time there but in that short time managed to take a few of these shots for INDULGE.

Also, worked on a few videos that I am extremely excited about. So, the youtube channel will also be up soonest. I am nervous and excited at the same time. Hope you like what you see and read here. Over to the pictures now,

This song plays in loop, I think you guys might like it. BEWAJAH

A SAREE RITUAL

For INDULGE my motive was to document and share all the things which I like and that I feel might interest you. Today I bring to you two of my favourite sarees. Both have a story to tell. There is something about a saree that will never go out of fashion.

This one is my mothers saree that my father gifted her for my naming ceremony. It is in a very fragile condition with its silk almost ready to melt away. I really wanted to photograph this saree before it really goes away.

Chanderi Silk Saree from Dadar Silk Emporium, 1986.

INDULGE will eventually be a separate blog but for now I will be putting up stories here. I hope you guys like my attempt to bring to you some lifestyle stories that I like. Let me know your thoughts of what all you would like to see here. There are a lot many things under INDULGE but will come to you in time. For now, these are the pictures from my recent trip to document an ethnic wear brand. And I thought would be a great opportunity to take pictures of these sarees too.

AATMAN

My love for jewellery is unpaired to my love for any other materialistic things. I think jewellery pieces somehow have the ability to live on forever. I really like the whole idea of passing down the heirloom jewellery. It always come to you with memories and stories.

I am always on a look out for indigenous jewellery brands that would match my aesthetics and thats when I found Aatman,

" Aatman is an Indian Art Jewellery brand that breaths classsim, grace and abundant happiness into your wardrobe. "

It has been a while that I got these two gorgeous pieces from Aatman and I absolutely love them.

ANVITHA & NAVEEN : MALYALEE TELUGU WEDDING AT DAKSHINCHITRA, CHENNAI

"To have lived and loved"

I feel, to love and be loved is the greatest accomplishment of all. Relationships are so enriching that let you grow as a person. As a photographer, it is an immense pleasure for me to witness and document two people promise this bond to one another. I cannot tell you how lucky I feel to witness the love of a father towards his son and a mother's emotions towards her daughter as they  step into a new phase of life. I can't help but get teared up. Such was a wedding that I got to be a part of very recently.

Anvitha & Naveen the amazing duo from The Marigold Company  got married on a sunny day this September at Dakshinchitra. Their story is all about happy happenstances but I would like to call it Serendipity.

And I am speechless after that so I will take a leave while you look at the pictures. I hope you are able to see the dreaminess, the love, the light  that I experienced on their wedding day !

SHINY LITTLE THINGS : MANUBHAI JEWELLERS

There are times when we just can't resist ! Jewellery is the easiest pick-me-up on all my travels or just even a trip to Colaba Causeway. I should probably write about all my little trinkets here someday. I can't really decide if I love jewellery more home decor accents or books or sarees.

For me gold is always a winner and when Manubhai Jewellers asked if I would want to see some of their new collection, I jumped at this opportunity and also thought of taking a few pictures too.

This particular earring is a part of Traditional Bridal Masterpiece collection at Manubhai Jewellers. It is a complete winner for me with its antique gold and temple jewellery design.

                                                      Incatenato Leaf Italian Earrings

These are from the newest Italian Gold Collection. Very delicately crafted, they offer us a stunning modernity. This collection looks extremely well when paired with chic, minimal and modern apparel.

This one is an heirloom piece passed onto me by my grandmother after my mother wore it to her wedding. This is my favourite piece out of all the jewellery that prettily lies in a tin box. Also this green checkered saree is a new buy from my last trip to Chennai. Anvitha Pillai graciously agreed to help me with the saree buying spree.

JUST MY TYPE

I recently got an invitation by Adfactors PR to view an art installation. As an art installation of this kind was unheard of in India. It was a piece made from typewriters.

Anushree Gavas Mumbai Lifestyle Blogger

Typewriters have always fascinated me and so I was quite curious to go see the art installation. A typewriter still proudly sits on my desk along with a desktop, I don't use it much apart from writing letters to my husband (yes, we are very old school.) It is a beautiful to feel the letters on the other side of the page.

My mother who works for Maharashtra State Government had been using a typewriter until much recently when her office decide to go with :computerisation" (they had Godrej and Remington typewriters functional at their office) . I do feel happy to know that the Indian High Commission in London has reverted to using typewriters. From the two exams that she gave to get this particular job was a typewriting test (Maharashtra Public Service Commission & Typewriting Test). Typewriting test use to be quite a big deal back then and a good speed ensured a "government job". Please do see the video below from one of the Typewriting competitions.

Abhishek Jain won the typewriting completion back in 1995 and incidentally it happened to be a Godrej & Boyce typewriter.

Godrej Archives is committed to document the history of Godrej manufacturing in a visual and a text format and I was fortunate to be invited to this event in presence of the driving force of Godrej Archives, Pheroza Godrej and Navroze Godrej.

Godrej & Boyce stopped the production of typewriters in 2011 (The factory was in Satara, Maharashtra) and are now working on a book that documents the typewriters left in the country, whatever condition that they are in. So if you have a typewriter story get in touch with me or Godrej Archives directly.

Anushree Gavas Mumbai Lifestyle Blogger

The art installation was at Godrej Hubble opened in 2014 - Hs designed to be a space where people can share their ideas, network with each other and build communities. I have always believed that community over competition will always take us ahead. Thats the idea that thrives here and also at Google office when I got to visit them for a Youtube Creators Workshop.

Jeremy Mayers was invited by Godrej to make an art piece paying homage to their erstwhile product line. Mayer and team team of two boys, I am sure must be quite a happy team. Just like boys in a toyshop ! Jeremy is well know world around to create anthropomorphic sculptures through typewriters that reach him serendipitously. It is interesting to learn that he has never bought a typewriter to make a piece of art but friends and families and acquaintances world over have made sure that a typewriter reaches him.

Jeremy uses as little as possible of any foreign objects or methods such as welding, gluing etc.

"Lotus" and "Mandalas" were created by Mayers inspired from 5 months that he spent here as an Artist-in-Residence at Godrej archives campus. He started working on this installation as a part of Godrej & Boyce project. This project "Encourages encourages artist across the globe to restore, recreate and reimagine the past in order to create art that will inspire the future."

Restore. Recreate. Reimagine is the motto for Godrej Hubble, Godrej Archives and India culture Lab.

When I get a fortune cookie, I break the cookie, put the fortune aside and eat the cookie. Working with my sculptures is similar. I don’t wish to know their future.

The 13- foot high sculpture is displayed at Godrej Hubble and will be there till the time permits. Jeremy along with his team has used 60 typewriters from the last batch of  typewriters. It consists of 15 petals with each petal being made with more than 200 parts from the typewriters. For this piece Jeremy has used some fabrication invisible to our eyes.

To head to the future is a nice path to take but I am a dweller of the past. As much as Jeremy's Lotus is beautiful to look at and makes us hopeful of the future to have a strong connect to old anecdotes , I am sad to see the dis-assembling of typewriter. Perhaps one day someone will be dis-assembling any post new age piece to take a path that takes us to the times gone by.

Also, I have to have to say that I am extremely happy with the initiative like Godrej Archives. We need documentation of everything that have and I would love to see how they take this mammoth task upon them. Warm wishes to them !

THE ETHNIC EDGE

I find myself going for smart-casual kurtas, stoles, dupattas, palazzos (my currents love) to dress for any sort of occasion. The new age ethnic wear seamlessly transcends into smart work wear to evening wear. I love anything that has Indianness to it. I can't help but fall in love with paisley pattern every now and then.

Case in point , PIKU. I saw the movie recently and am bowled over by Deepika's look in it. Films have always given us some really fantastic fashion inspirations. The work wear is kept practical and so chic and I love the bindi.

                                                                   Image : Jabong

Lifestyle stores brings us this amazing look through Melange. Melange is an exclusive ethnic brand from Lifestyle and they had made the look available in stores. The Piku Lifestyle collection got noticed by various fashion bloggers like me and they created their own Piku Melange inspired looks. I am in line of creating one of my own and will be up on the blog soon.

Anushree Gavas Mumbai Lifestyle Blogger

I am sure by now you would want to go shopping but the rains outside wouldn't allow you and it would have been so nice if similar ethnic fusion wear was available somewhere online. Ofcpurse you can buy Melange Collection through Jabong

But if you are looking for more, here come NAARI. Go check Naari for their amazing kurti, slim pants, palazzos and dupatta collection. These are some of my favourites.

DAISY & NIKHIL : WEDDING CEREMONY IN SHIMLA

Love is something so surreal that you always feel the magic when you are among the people in love. Something similar happened while shooting this particular wedding.

I had the opportunity to shoot the second leg of celebration of love for Daisy & Nikhil. And the venue was so beautiful that it literally took my breath away ! I was very excited to shoot their wedding celebrations after the Civil ceremony in Bombay.

Celebrations started off with mehendi ceremony at Karnal. Nikhil has his family home there.

And then the party moved to Shimla at a stunning venue of Hotel Peterhoff. The hotel was placed atop a hill and had an amazing view.

I wish Daisy & Nikhil lifetime of happiness and thank them for this opportunity to be a part of their special day and be able to document it for them.

Sakshi Sood, a very talented make-up and hair artist made the couple look perfect for the day.

I was reading last night and came across this quote and thought it would be a perfect line to end with.

MOGRA

Come summer and I am on hunt for light breezy apparel and similar vibe accessories.

My summer wardrobe or actually all of my wardrobe for all season is full of cotton-ny, Indian inspired, classic, minimal apparel and accessories. And thats how I feel I bumped into these two amazing artists that gave me two of my new summer favourites.

Introducing Mogra by Sheena Roy. I have already raved about how much I loved her designs and how what a chic avatar she brings to the age old tradition of saree. And I was hoping to get something from Mogra Studios and I think I found something : )

Mogra is a travel & crafts label that brings together Indian textiles and global designs. They work exclusively with locally sourced, handloom, hand woven 7 hand printed fabrics crafted by india's most skilled artisans.

loved this dress when it was first up for grabs but missed the opportunity as it went out of stock almost immediately but then i got lucky the second time : )

Another Mogra addition is a lovely present from a very dear and massively talented friend/artist Antima Khanna. She is on a generous spree this summer : )

Antima Khanna designs are very carefully curated and designed for personalities. It is not a mass production done in some factories but lovingly hand-made to suit each personality and that is what makes it so unique that not many people will have the design you ll wear.

Another mention for my summer favourites is Moringa collection from Body Shop. I love that it is light fragrance and is an absolute summer must have.

RUTIKA & AMAL : GUJRATI WEDDING CEREMONY IN AHMEDABAD

Rutika's brother connected with me to document his sisters wedding and thats how I got to Ahmedabad ( my first time there). Having lived all my life in Ghatkopar (mini-Gujrat) I have always loved Gujrati weddings and Gujrati khana.

And I reach to the venue directly from the airport and I in to a beautifully done place to host the mehendi ceremony.

NIHA & AFFAN: CONTEMPORARY WEDDING CEREMONY IN CHENNAI

I was massively excited to take pictures for Niha & Affan. This was going to be my first time in Chennai and more-so my first time shooting a Muslim wedding. The couple chose to have a civil ceremony with elaborate Mehendi and get-together for family and friends.

Niha is an Art Therapist and it was wonderful conversing with her about art and aesthetics and how it is related to our Psychology.

Niha's mehendi was at her home and we also got some time to take a few portraits of her and the couple.

Untitled-1.jpg

And the mehendi party was at Taj Connemara, Raintree Garden. It was Niha who took the matters in her hand when it came to decor and she excelled as the venue looked absolutely gorgeous, a photographers delight !

We had mid-January showers for a bit but instead of making the whole event gloomy, it added a beautiful freshness as the main theme of the decor was nature itself !

Beautiful details from the decor !

It was not just the decor but Niha was an integral part of designing her wedding outfit as well. The dress was one of its kind and incidentally happened to be in my favourite colour ! : )
I love when the couples take care of detailing on their own or are at least a part of the whole process. It adds a very personal touch and makes it all the more unique !

The couple hosted a get-together for close friends at The Apartment, Pak Hyatt after the civil ceremony.

Niha, Affan and their families are very private but graciously agreed for me to showcase a few pictures for my blog.  I thank their families for having me over!

Wishing the couple happy togetherness and love !

THEY WILL MAKE YOU EXTRA HAPPY

When couples approach me to document their wedding, the succeeding question they ask is to suggest wedding filmmakers, make-up and hair artists and others relevant to their wedding day needs. Who to look for when you are ready to get married is perhaps the most difficult task of every wedding. So here, I am trying to simplify this for you with good solutions that I have found over time. (This is a list of some wonderful artists and brands that I know or have worked with or have loved too much !)

From Wedding Stationery to Wedding Décor, from Cinematographers to Art Essentials for your special day, a wedding is a culmination of these distinctive little things that add up together for your big day.

Cinematographers : The Marigold Company by Anvitha Pillai & Naveen Yadav, Chennai.

This extremely talented duo ensures that your day is captured with utmost attention to details.

What I love about The Marigold Company is primarily their choice of music. With an ideal soundtrack to your ceremony, Anvitha & Naveen add the right elements of emotions and the closest set of people into the frame and they do it just beautifully!

Go see for yourself their beautifully hand-crafted wedding films!

Pretty you :  Mogra

One of the dilemmas you might face as a bride is  atleast half a dozen of new articles in your wardrobe. And me as a bride I knew I wanted more than just sarees and salwar suits and lehengas. I wanted dressed and tops but also still wanted to look a bit of a "newly wed" ! I wish I knew Mogra then ! Western outfits with an Indian touch, my nod goes for it !

Introducing Mogra by Sheena Roy ! I was introduced to this Pune based brand very recently, and can't get over their innovative use of giving a whole new avatar to saris by getting them in dresses and tops! If you’re looking for a unique dress for your haldi day or wedding brunch with a dash of Indian-ness, try Mogra. A top pick for your non-traditional days! I massively love sarees and salwar suits which I can wear on normal days and just look Indian and not too festive.

The best part is that Mogra also gives you the option to rake through your wardrobe and send them your very own sarees ( that really see the light of the day in ages ) to have them transformed into Mogra designs ! I know I am scoring through my closet this weekend as I have some 25 sarees already and I would love a new look to them !

Pretty you : AKA Bespoke

‘a.k.a. bespoke’ is an accessories brand for the ladies and gentlemen of the 21st century. It was started by aeiman. karan. ateev. - Three friends and designers, each with a very distinct style but common passion ~ to create beautiful, timeless pieces to express their love for design.

After graduating from the prestigious Cordwainers - London College of Fashion, they decided to establish their brand to cater to a niche group of clients, as limited in number as their collections and just as sharply discerning.

They believe in exclusive, bespoke creations - to delve deep into each client’s wants and wishes and handcraft painstakingly, speciality footwear and bags like no other.

I also had the opportunity to be in front of the camera for their very first collection and hence I have literally seen this grand grow to the runway shows. Aka has made bespoke shoes for  Rahul Mishra at the Paris Fashionweek.

ore closer to home they have also designed shoes for Ritu Kumar, Priyadarshini Rao, Nimish Shah and many more..

Exclusive retail collections of a.k.a. bespoke shoes are available at ‘Bungalow 8’ and ‘MAL’ in Mumbai and ‘White’ in New Delhi.

Wedding Stationery : The Shaadi Project by The Post box

The Postbox is an e-commerce platform where designers, graphic artists and photographers come together to create a visually inspiring canvas. I am lucky to call Madhuvanthi Senthilkumar & Nikhil Joseph my friends who are the brains behind this wonderful venture.

I have seen the growth of The Postbox right from where it was just an idea to the heights it has reached now. And now The Postbox team will be catering to the shaadi people through The Shaadi Project !

This is something I am very optimistic about considering my love for stationery. I know how essential is the wedding stationery because thats the first look people get to your wedding. I know how my husband and me were particular about having classic and minimalistic wedding invites. So much so that we had to design and get them printed ourselves.

I am sure of the brilliance of design with "The Shaadi Project as they have an army of artists ready to take on work for this.

Come April first week, Madhuvanthi & Nikhil will launch "The Shaadi Project" a one stop shop for customized design for your invitation cards, props and wedding gifts and wedding favors.

More updates on this coming soon !

BLACK AND WHITE

One day I really wish to document a wedding in only black and white and possibly on Ilford : )

But meanwhile here are some other black and white images.

shimla times
Daisy and Nikhil's wedding venue, Shimla. February 2015.

And amidst the beautiful Shimla hills I met Kismet of The Unreal Bride

It was rather a beautiful surprise that the couple booked us both seperatly : ) And it was nothing but such a joy working with her. I hope to bump into her more often !

kismet

Also met Mehlum on his yet another trip to India. We went wandering about on the streets on Bombay and took these few pictures of him.

mehlum 1

These pictures are taken by Nikon 50mm 1.2 which is a manual focus lens. And I am absolutely in love with it !

It was my second time shooting with Nikon and I might just be tipping towards it, just like Ram Balmur who recently switched his whole Canon equipment to Nikon. I think I will follow suit sometime : ) Though I still have to do my homework for it.

Mehlum

We met again at Banganga and here is the set of images he took of me on his Tumblr page.

I haven't been posting much of wedding work here but I am behind editing 8 weddings and so many many more updates.

Next post will be a glimpse of the beautiful couples I got to meet.

Also I have been working on a brand ideology for "Serendipity" and also possibly a new look for the blog. But I am too attached to the current layout so you guys can help me make a decision.

Till then, love!

DAISY & NIKHIL : CIVIL CEREMONY IN MUMBAI

One fine day I get a very sweet mail request from this boy for couple portraits. And we go back and forth on it but the schedules don't match and a lot other things and it finally didn't work out.

Fast forward to last month ( one year later ). I get another mail from the same boy asking if I would be available to document their wedding.

It is nothing but humbling when people world over connect to you because they like your work and keep coming back!

It is a wedding like no other because the couple is so effervescent and full of life and it was such an unusually beautiful wedding day for me.

Showcasing Part I

Court Nuptials.

This is the second court wedding that I have shot. And the spaces are quite interesting, edgy but make a beautiful backdrop.

Shohini, she is my favourite bridesmaid I have ever met!  She also did an impromptu performance by singing Ambarsariya for us and also got an applause from the people at the restaurant : )

The comedians of the house !

And I can't wait to shoot the part II of their wedding. And I am meeting none other than Kismet, woohoo!

On another note, two weddings amidst the hills and I am excited!

Love!
